Jaman North Celebrates 40th National Farmers’ Day in Style

The Jaman North District joined the rest of the nation in celebrating the 40th edition of National Farmers’ Day, honoring the hardworking men and women who feed our communities and drive our economy. This year’s event, held in the farming community of Kokosua, was a resounding success, bringing together farmers, local leaders, and traditional authorities to recognize excellence in agriculture and reaffirm our commitment to a sustainable food future.

The theme of this year’s Farmers’ Day, “Building Climate-Resilient Agriculture for Sustainable Food Security,” underscored the urgent need for our farming sector to adapt to the challenges posed by climate change. As District Chief Executive Hon. Solomon Owusu emphasized in his address, our farmers are on the frontline of this battle, and their ingenuity and resilience will be crucial in ensuring we can continue to put food on the table for generations to come.

The District Chief Executive praised the tireless efforts of all farmers, both those receiving awards and those whose vital work often goes unsung. He urged continued diversification of crops, even as the district maintains its position as a hub for cashew production, and highlighted the government’s ongoing support for the agricultural sector through initiatives like Planting for Food and Jobs.

The awards ceremony was the highlight of the day, with accolades bestowed upon outstanding farmers across a range of categories. These included Best Maize Farmer, Best Conservation Agriculture Farmer, Best Cashew Farmer, and Best Woman in Agriculture, among others. The District Overall Best Farmer was presented with a brand new tricycle and a selection of farming equipment to support their future endeavors.

The event also featured an important reminder from the District Fire Service Commander about the dangers of bushfires, particularly in the dry harmattan season. His warning served as a crucial reminder to all in attendance of the need for vigilance in protecting our hard-won harvests.

As the celebration drew to a close, the farmers in attendance expressed their heartfelt thanks to the government and the District Assembly for recognizing their efforts. Their pledge to redouble their efforts in the face of the challenges ahead was a testament to the indomitable spirit of Ghana’s farming community.
