MEDIA ENGAGEMENT WITH CASHEW FARMERS AND KEY STAKEHOLDERS

Cashew watch Ghana (CWG) is a civil society platform on cashew made up of cashew farmers, media practitioners and NGOs has secured GHS348, 561 from STAR Ghana foundation for the implementation of 14 months project titled: Amplifying Voices of cashew farmers (AVCF)

Cashew watch Ghana coordinated a forum with key stakeholders on 6th February 20224 at the Pentecost Church (Central) Jaman North, Sampa. Fifty Seven 57 participants attended the meeting which incorporates five (5) media stations; Sompa TV (Sunyani), Yankee Radio (Sampa), Gye Nyame Radio (Sampa), Anidaso Fm (Drobo) and Tain Radio.

The project seeks to equip at least 1,500 cashew farmers with requisite skills and knowledge to effectively engage government and key stakeholders to influence policy and practice in the sector.

The project will also make a case for cashew farmers to be prioritized in the 2024 elections by making political parties to have a clear –cut policy for the cashew sector in their manifestoes.

Other key stakeholders were youth famers, women famers, men farmers, Cashew buying companies, Cashew buying agents, retailers, processors, cashew farmers association members (tree crop development authority) and Department of Agriculture Directors from Jaman North, Jaman South and Tain. Mr. Simon Asore Azumah (functional steering committee chairman) introduced the objectives of Cashew Watch Ghana (CWG) and collaborative effort for key stakeholders in the cashew value chain.

Mr. Raphael Godslove Ahenu presented a baseline survey that was conducted to identify the major constraints was discuss with participants during the fora.
