Jaman North District Empowers Persons with Disabilities for Economic Independence

In a significant effort to empower and uplift Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Jaman North District, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Solomon Owusu, spearheaded the distribution of essential resources to sixty-nine individuals with disabilities. The initiative, which took place at the district headquarters, aimed to provide PWDs with the tools and support needed to enhance their livelihoods and foster economic independence.
Hon. Solomon Owusu, in collaboration with local authorities, ensured that a diverse array of aids was provided to cater to the various needs and aspirations of PWDs. The distribution included practical items such as deep freezers, hair dryers, and fufu pounding machines, empowering recipients to engage in income-generating activities and entrepreneurship.

Furthermore, recognizing the importance of access to education and healthcare, financial assistance was provided to cover school fees and healthcare expenses for the beneficiaries. This holistic approach aimed to alleviate financial burdens and promote inclusivity by ensuring PWDs have equal opportunities to pursue education and maintain good health.
During the distribution event, Mrs. Esther Ampaabeng Kyeremeh, Chairperson for the PWDs Association in Jaman North District, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the government of the New Patriotic Party and Hon. Solomon Owusu for their dedication to alleviating poverty among PWDs. Mrs. Kyeremeh commended the efforts made thus far but urged for further support and advocacy.

“While we appreciate the government’s initiatives in supporting PWDs, we believe there is room for improvement,” Mrs. Kyeremeh remarked. “We appeal for an increase in the allocation of the common fund percentage from 3% to at least 10%. This adjustment would enable us to reach more of our members and address their diverse needs effectively.”

Items to be given to the beneficiaries
In addition to expressing gratitude and advocating for increased support, Mrs. Kyeremeh also encouraged the beneficiaries to utilize the distributed items effectively for their intended purpose. She emphasized the importance of using these resources to generate income, thereby ensuring sustainability and self-sufficiency among PWDs.

The distribution event underscored the commitment of the Jaman North District leadership to promote inclusivity, dignity, and socioeconomic empowerment for PWDs. Through collaborative efforts and targeted interventions, stakeholders aim to create an enabling environment where PWDs can thrive, contribute meaningfully to society, and achieve economic independence.
