Jaman North District Assembly Holds First Technical Sub-Committee Meeting for 2025

The Technical Sub-Committee of the Jaman North District Assembly convened its first meeting of the year on Wednesday, January 29, 2025. The meeting, which took place at the District Works department office, was chaired by the District Works Engineer and brought together key stakeholders from various institutions, including the District Physical Planner, representatives from the Ghana National Fire Service, the Volta River Authority (VRA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), and the Environmental Health Unit.

The agenda for the meeting focused on two critical issues: addressing the improper siting of containers within the district and reviewing development permit applications submitted for consideration. The discussions underscored the importance of enforcing regulations to prevent unauthorized structures from obstructing public spaces, compromising safety, and affecting planned development projects.

The committee members deliberated on strategies to curb the indiscriminate placement of containers in the district. They emphasized the need for proper zoning, adherence to land-use policies, and increased public sensitization on the importance of obtaining the necessary permits before installing commercial or residential structures.

Additionally, the committee reviewed applications for development permits to ensure that proposed projects align with the district’s development plan and meet all regulatory requirements. The representatives from the relevant agencies provided expert input on environmental, safety, and infrastructural considerations necessary for granting approvals.

The Chairman of the Technical Sub-Committee, the District Works Engineer, expressed his appreciation for the collaboration among the stakeholders and stressed the importance of a coordinated effort in maintaining orderly development in the district. He assured residents that the Assembly would continue to enforce regulations to promote sustainable urban planning and environmental safety.
