Jaman North District Celebrates 41st Farmers’ Day at Bonakire

Bonakire, Dec. 5, 2025 — The Jaman North District Assembly on Friday joined the rest of the nation to commemorate the 41st National Farmers’ Day with a colourful and well-attended celebration at Bonakire, under the theme “Feed Ghana, Grow Ghana, Secure the Future.”

The event brought together farmers from across the district, traditional authorities, government officials, and community members to honour the dedication and sacrifices of farmers who continue to play a critical role in ensuring food security and economic growth in the district and the nation at large.

The ceremony was graced by the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Jaman North, Hon. George Adane George, the Member of Parliament for Jaman North Constituency, Hon. Ahenkwah Yaw Frederick, Assembly Members, Heads of Departments and Units, and several traditional rulers. The programme was chaired by the Chief of Bonakire, Nana Sah Kofi Dabie II.

Activities that marked the celebration included exhibitions of farm produce, displays of livestock, cultural performances, and educational engagements on modern farming practices and bushfire prevention.

Delivering the keynote address, Hon. George Adane George commended farmers for their resilience and hard work, stressing that the theme for the year reflects Ghana’s renewed commitment to building a strong and sustainable agricultural sector.

“This year’s theme, ‘Feed Ghana, Grow Ghana, Secure the Future,’ underscores the importance of agriculture in our national development. The Jaman North District Assembly remains committed to supporting our farmers to increase productivity and improve livelihoods,” the DCE stated.

He announced several interventions aimed at boosting agricultural production in the district, including the procurement of chainsaw machines for cashew pruning, the distribution of 500 bags of fertilizer to farmers, and plans to roll out large-scale onion production to reduce importation. He also disclosed that the government has begun constructing silos across constituencies to reduce post-harvest losses and that Jaman North District will benefit from a Farmer Services (Mechanization) Centre.

A total of twenty-one (21) farmers and institutions were honoured for their outstanding contributions to agriculture during the awards ceremony. The highlight of the event was the crowning of Mr. Isaac Adinkrah as the District Overall Best Farmer.

Special category awards were also presented, including District Best Woman in Agriculture, awarded to Otiwaa Patricia, and District Best Physically Challenged Farmer, awarded to Afia Donkor, among several others across crop, livestock, youth, and institutional categories.

The event recorded an attendance of over seven hundred (700) people, reflecting strong community participation and appreciation for farmers’ efforts. However, challenges such as poor road networks affecting the transportation of farm produce and low cashew prices were highlighted as major concerns facing farmers in the district.

The celebration ended with a call on farmers to diversify into food crop production, adopt modern farming techniques, and take advantage of government interventions aimed at transforming the agricultural sector.

The 41st Farmers’ Day celebration in the Jaman North District not only rewarded excellence but also reaffirmed the district’s commitment to agricultural development in line with the national vision to feed Ghana, grow Ghana, and secure the future.
